Can Your Employer Terminate You With One Month’s Notice?

If you were given notice and dismissed from your job, and the dismissal was not related to discipline, performance, redundancy or some other legitimate reason, that dismissal may be unfair and you may be entitled to compensation.

Even though your contract may have a clause that says your employer can terminate you for any reason by giving notice of termination (whether it’s 2 weeks, 1 month or 3 months), your employer cannot terminate you without having a legitimate reason and following the proper process.

If you are terminated without a legitimate reason and solely based on the termination clause in your contract, that may be an unfair dismissal and you may be entitled to compensation.
